Sign painters are always looking. Whether driving through a city or watching a film, they can’t help but scan their surroundings for lettering, layouts, and color palettes that tell a story. Movies and television, in particular, offer an endless archive of signage—some essential to the plot, others tucked away in the background, waiting to be noticed.
For the Love of Sign brings together 26 sign painters from across the country to celebrate this shared fascination. Each artist was invited to recreate or reinterpret a sign from film or television, whether through an exact replica or an original piece inspired by the source material.
This exhibition showcases the wide-ranging techniques and materials that fall under the umbrella of sign painting, including lettering and sign enamel paint, 23k gold leaf, crescent board, wood cutouts, and mixed media.
For the Love of Sign highlights the unique styles of each artist while demonstrating the impact signage has on visual culture. By reimagining these cinematic signs, the artists pay homage to the craft, the nostalgia, and the small details that make a scene memorable.
For the Love of Sign will open on Saturday, March 29th, 2025 from 6-9pm. The exhibit will be on view through April 26th, 2025.
